My Story
My guitar journey began at age 15, inspired by legendary players like Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, and The Edge. Like many aspiring musicians, I spent my teenage years playing in garage bands, learning songs, making mistakes, and discovering the joy that comes from making music with others.

After graduating from high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps, where I proudly served for four years. No matter where life took me, the guitar remained a constant companion. Whether I was serving in the Marines or later building a career in education, I always found time to play in bands and keep music as an important part of my life.

Following my military service, I attended college and became a high school U.S. History teacher. Teaching quickly became more than a profession—it became a calling. Throughout my 25-year career in education, I looked for ways to help students discover their passions and build confidence through meaningful hands-on learning experiences.Â

One of my favorite projects as a teacher was creating an after-school program called Rock 4 Change. Through a series of grants, I was able to purchase guitars, basses, drums, and amplifiers, allowing students to learn to play their instruments, form bands, and perform live concerts for family and friends. Watching young musicians gain confidence and develop their talents was one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching career.Â

In 2014, I was honored to be named Nevada Teacher of the Year, a recognition that reflects my commitment to helping others learn, grow, and achieve their goals.Â

Today, I've combined my lifelong love of guitar with my passion for teaching by creating 2nd Act Guitar Academy. My mission is simple: to help adults over 50 confidently learn guitar, reconnect with music, and enjoy the journey of becoming a musician—whether they're picking up the guitar for the first time or returning to it after many years away.

I believe it's never too late to learn something new, pursue a passion, or reinvent yourself. At 2nd Act Guitar Academy, you'll find a supportive community of adults who share that belief. Because your best music may still be ahead of you—and it's never too late to start your second act.
